I was at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas when the Kenwood DNN992 was debuted. It was impressive then and even more impressive now that I've had the opportunity to use the unit. This head unit is highly custimizable to suit your needs. From overall settings to the look of the user interface.

The pre-installed social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter take this receiver to the level. With the never-ending-growth and popularity of social media, features like these will soon become a staple with infotainment manufacturers. You can also setup your email account and sync it with the Kenwood DNN992 for easy on-the-road access.

The 6.95 inch color LED display has a beautiful gloss finish that can tilt to multiple angles; including a reverse tilt. Reverse tilt is a feature that all other receivers lack and is beneficial for anti-glare purposes.

Video can be displayed on this unit from various sources such as HDMI, iPhone, Android and even streaming via the web browser. Folks with rear seat entertainment just found a surefire way to keep the kids entertained on those road trips.

Smartphone mirroring is compatible with this unit. Your phone's display can be transmitted wirelessly and when connected, you'll be able to control your phone from the unit directly via the touch-panel display.

The most popular mobile navigation software is built into this receiver. Garmin is likely the most user-friendly navigation system available today. Frankly, while many users enjoy using Google Maps on their phones, I find Garmin to be my preference. I can't customize Google Maps and it's functionality, but I can certainly make Garmin my own. Maybe it's just me, but I want to choose the voice giving me directions and choose which points of interest appear on my screen. Not to mention traffic updates! Simple things to some, vital for others.

Of course I can't blog without talking about my favorite subject: Sound Quality! When was the last time you had a receiver that took into account road noise? I doubt many have even heard of this feature. Kenwood's Drive EQ+ places emphasis on certain frequencies in order to compensate for road noise. Not only are the mid and high frequencies managed to driving conditions, but bass is also enhanced. As you drive faster, the bass output is slightly increased to overcome objectionable noise from the road.

In closing, I believe this stereo receiver is for the Audiophile, the family SUV and for anyone who must stay "connected" at all times. There isn't many units in this price range that are as capable and functional as the Kenwood DNN992. It's not exactly cheap, but you're getting your money's worth and you can keep it for many years to come because it's update-able. Take it with you when you buy a new car, or pass it along to your kids. It's a keeper!
