Many of us have had speeding tickets from time to time. I was just thinking today, how many times I could have prevented the costs with a radar detector. I never had one until about 3 years ago. Prior to that, I had several speeding tickets that cost more than my detector!

There are some indirect costs as well as the fines themselves. If you opt for taking a driving course, you'll still spend money on the course. Whats worse, having to sit through a class for hours upon hours. Even the online courses take a great part of the day; because they have timers that prevent you from moving to the next segment. All this time can be translated to money.

Of course, I am not advocating speeding. However, several times on a long drive, I would accidentally slip and forget to monitor my speed. An alert is always nice. Especially when GPS enabled detectors alert you. They know where the speed-traps are. You know, when the highway speed is at 75mph, then you run into a small town and suddenly it's 55mph or less. There are always black and whites out there catching folks as they are slowing down. Knowing in advance that you're approaching a potential speed trap is priceless.
